93 - James Suckling
A fluid, fleshy and deeply structured wine with dark cherry and blackberry fruit flavors amid sturdy yet supple tannins. Good weight and presence.
91 - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
No surprise, the 2015 Gigondas Aux Lieux Dits is the most approachable of the 2015s, as it had already been fined and blended when I sampled it. It was aged 90% in foudres and 10% in terra-cotta. Bright cherries and raspberries carry attractive hints of ground spices in this medium to full-bodied wine. It does still have a bit of chewy tannin to resolve.

Domaine Santa Duc stands as one of the leading estates in Gigondas, widely regarded as a benchmark producer in the Southern Rhône. Since taking over from his father Edmond Gras in 1985, Yves Gras has transformed the domaine from selling the majority of its production in bulk to négociants into a fully estate-bottled operation, elevating both quality and reputation.
This shift required a deep commitment to vineyard work, with a dedicated team focused entirely on cultivating the estate’s approximately 10 hectares of vines. While modest in size for the region, the domaine’s holdings—spread across Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Séguret, and Roaix—produce wines of remarkable concentration and character. In the cellar, Yves Gras works largely alone, bringing a hands-on, artisanal approach to winemaking.
Thanks to strong relationships across the Southern Rhône, Gras also sources high-quality fruit for his négociant wines, carefully blending them with precision and expertise.
Critically acclaimed, Domaine Santa Duc has earned exceptional praise from Robert Parker Jr., who named it a five-star producer and declared it “the champion of Gigondas.” The estate’s 1998 Gigondas was ranked 15th in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of 2000, further cementing its international reputation. Today, no serious discussion of Gigondas is complete without mention of Domaine Santa Duc.
These wines beautifully express the rugged terroir of the Southern Rhône—rich, structured, and layered, with the ability to age gracefully. Perfect alongside hearty dishes such as roast lamb, game, or Provençal stews, they offer both immediate appeal and long-term cellaring potential.
